During this week of tulip time, hundreds of visitors are coming to the Holland area to celebrate a beautiful plant, tulips! However, tulips aren’t the only plants that are great in the spring. Here are 5 reasons why spring is a great season for succulents. 1. Spring Decor We’ve has a few false starts, but winter is finally over and spring is here! As you are switching over to spring decorations, and possibly doing some cleaning, plants are a great way to freshen up your house. Bringing a little bit of the outside in makes everything feel more alive, and the bright colors of succulents just seem to fit with the pinks, greens, yellows, purples, and blues of spring. 2. Gifts Not only are we in the season of tulip time, but this weekend is also mother’s day! This day is typically celebrated with flowers, but succulents are a great choice too. They have all of the color and beauty of a bouquet but last much longer. And, while we are thinking about gifts, there are also graduations and teacher gifts! A gift card is nice, but if you are looking for something a little more personal, an arrangement could be a good choice. Take a look at the photo gallery to see if there’s one you like! 3. Health In Michigan, winter is the toughest season for succulents. These plants love light, and if they can’t get enough of it, they will stretch and lose their color. Buying plants in the spring helps you make sure that their previously family treated them well. If they didn’t, the plants won’t look nearly as beautiful and are more likely to die from watering problems or disease. If they did, the plants should look just as healthy as they would any other time of the year. 4. Flowers Just like us, succulents celebrate this season with flowers! Many succulents, particularly echeverias, bloom in the spring. These beautiful flowers only last a few weeks, so cherish them while you can! 5. Summer is coming soon! If winter is succulent’s hardest season, summer is definitely their favorite. An abundant amount of light and warm temperatures make these plants happy, healthy, and beautiful. This means that spring is the best time to give succulents a try because new owners have the whole summer ahead of them. I am certainly looking forward to it!
